~ About Karen ~

Karen Kappe Nugent is an accomplished Pennsylvania artist who creates fine paintings grounded in the principles of design, form, and color. The creation of a piece usually begins from life with sketches and notes. Sometimes a photograph is referenced for works that need to be illustratively accurate. She then develops these preliminary explorations into a finished painting.

Color and light inspire her to paint. Elements in her paintings are often narrative in nature, influenced by the individuality and connectedness of the human experience. Her favorite artists include impressionists, realists, and American illustrators.

Jeanne McCormack, of Gallery & Studio magazine, described her as a “consummate painter.” Others describe her work as “serene and colorful, technically advanced, and connected and in sync with nature.”

Karen completed a Bachelor of Fine Arts at the University of the Arts. She has continued her painting practice, exhibiting her work at regional venues in and around Philadelphia. She welcomes inquiries about her work.
